NordVPN has made a lot of improvements lately, now offering faster connections, auto-kill options for if the system loses its connection, plus a wide variety of useful features and tools. Prices are also low, with regular sales offering the service for as little as $4 per month.
The NordVPN team seem particularly proud of their service speed. They offer unlimited bandwidth, allowing you to download or upload quickly and without limitation. This makes it particularly useful for exchanging large files online if you don’t want the source to be traced.
The site is a little contradictory at times, at one moment seeming to offer tools for mobiles, then suggesting that the apps aren’t out yet. We assume that you can access your account and tools, but that a specific app for each mobile device has not yet been released. Once this is in place, it will be interesting to see how effective the mobile options are. Thankfully, you can use Nord VPN on up to 6 devices, which is pretty impressive as a number of sites only allow you to install their software on one or two devices.
Data is double encrypted to keep it safe, and your IP address can either be dedicated (kept the same, so that you can continually use services which need a set IP) or varied to prevent anyone from tracking your location. This variation means that you can use foreign or restricted websites, or simply explore sites without worrying about being located.
It sometimes feels as though NordVPN.com does a bit too much blowing of its own metaphoric horn. For example, they suggest they are the “Easiest VPN ever”. When you click to find out more information, it really doesn’t tell you much about how to use it or why it’s easy. In fact, this is a regular approach to many of their pages of additional information – they simply don’t do what they’re meant to. This all makes it sound like Nord are talking hot air, but at least the services speak for themselves in most regards.
You can request a live chat, send an email or contact the team on Facebook if you need support. They offer a good variety of ways to contact the support team, though online information could be improved so you could solve problems without having to contact them. The blog appears to be updated regularly, offering a range of interesting articles to read.
Unfortunately, the site doesn’t offer a free trial period, which is very disappointing. Instead, you can pay $8 to use it for a month, or sign up for a longer package. Regular deals offer savings and you can also find discount codes if you look in the right places.
In a competitive market, we understand the need to shout about your best traits to stand out. However, NordVPN seems like a bit of a show off, and the end result isn’t always quite as impressive as they make out. Still, there is a lot to like here: a fast, secure service with plenty of tools, all for a low price.
